The new season of Palm TV’s The Golden Nugget kicked off with highlights of season one – the tears, the obstacles and the overall winner – little Sharlene. Fast forward to the present – Season 2’s auditions. From interviews to crazy challenges the hundreds of hopefuls made every effort to secure their spot on the elite Golden Nugget squad for season two.

It came down to 20 contestants – 10 males and 10 females. They moved into the Knutsford Court Hotel and began their journey to winning the Kia Rio from Kia Motors. This year’s prizes and gifts include Digicel phones, airline tickets courtesy of Air Jamaica and Air Jamaica Express, Mushroom swimwear and gym wear, KELME apparel, Logo Stitch Caps, Grace gift baskets, weekends at Sunset Beach Resort & Spa – the official home of The Golden Nugget and the official The Golden Nugget T-Shirts from J&E Industries.

The new host, Candice randomly paired each of the female contestants with a male contestant giving a total of 10 male-female teams. It’s too early to tell which team will be going home at the end of the next episode but some had their doubts about Team 7’s Rastafarian, Ethan. It was felt that he would not be cunning enough and possibly fall down on any challenges which involved eating meat. Team 6’s Trudy did not share these concerns. She felt Ethan was very attractive and therefore her ideal partner. Team 10, Pedro and Tabena were off to a rocky start. Tabena felt Pedro was on The Golden Nugget for one thing – to check out girls. Pedro insisted this was not the reason. Even Team 7’s Ethan agreed that Pedro, like many of the other male contestants, were on the show for one thing – the girls. Alas, even Ethan seemed enamored with Team 9’s Marsha.

Team 5’s Levar and Team 2’s Louann expressed their excitement about being on the show and their anticipation of the experience which lies ahead – not just winning. Levar’s partner, Betty-Ann felt she and Levar had an uphill battle since his behaviour was so unruly. The big excitement of the night occurred when Team 9’s John revealed that he had never had sex without a condom, even when with a steady girlfriend. Team 2’s Louann was the strongest opponent to John’s claim and said she felt he didn’t really care for his girlfriend if he didn’t go without. John insisted it wasn’t worth the risk but Team 3’s Andre and Team 7’s Jenice failed to believe his claim that he has never gone unprotected.

The contestants are just getting to know each other but at the end of the next episode’s two challenges we must say goodbye to one of them. Which team will it be?
